Councils are still taking far too long to approve consents. They are holding up approvals based on vague and subjective “urban design aesthetics” meanwhile people are forced to live in motels.
It’s time to speed up the consenting process. Set up a public-private company, with majority private ownership and the ability for government to offer guidelines, to issue consents and measure the company on how quickly and easily they make it for developers to get residential consents. That would get things moving.
Regulations slow the market down, that’s the opposite to what we need. Yes, I understand that many people are jealous because they don’t own property, or don’t own more property, but the green-eyed-monster is not a good reason to make it harder for the people who are risking their retirement savings by allowing others to live in their homes.
Remove the red tape, let’s get building.
